Before the mocktails, there were bitters.

Token started with bitters. In 2016, Alberta's craft distilleries were finding their feet and Edmonton had no bitters of its own to pour beside them. So we made some, and became the city's first local bitters company.

They are still made by hand in Edmonton, with organic ingredients wherever possible: from Alberta farms when the flavour grows here, from fair trade sources when it does not. A few dashes season a drink the way salt seasons food. The spirit softens, the sharp edges round off, and everything else in the glass tastes more like itself.

Everything we have made since started there. Our Distemperance mocktails are built like our bitters: layered, dry, balanced.

How we sell them

Made for the back bar.

Our bitters are sold wholesale, by the case, to the bars, restaurants, cafes and shops that pour and stock them. You will also find us behind a table at markets around Edmonton.

They are not sold online. If you want them behind your bar or on your shelf, a wholesale account is how you get them.

The names

Place first, flavour second.

Most of our bitters take their first name from a corner of Edmonton and their second from what is in the bottle.

Earlier bottles were named for Meadowlark, Cloverdale and Hawks Ridge. Two look further afield: Muskoka Smoke is a tribute to Canada's cabin country, and Heritage is our nod to the classic Caribbean-style aromatics.
